PLOT

Males and women are completely segregated in one star system (on entirely distinct planets: Mejere by the women, Taraak by the men), making the gender war more than just a metaphor in this universe where humanity have colonized the galaxy. Hibiki Tokai, the male protagonist and a third-class laborer, accepts a wager to steal a high-tech Vanguard robot from a male attack force battleship ready to engage the "evil ladies." Hibiki, Duelo McFile, and Bart Garsus are the only members of the crew who remain on board when the battleship departs because they are engaged in a battle with female pirates. Things appear to have reached an all-time low for Hibiki when trapped on board and being held captive by female pirates until the retreiving males strike back by launching torpedoes at the ship to stop it from falling into the hands of women. The battleship's enigmatic, living core, the Paksis Pragma, destroys the missile and creates a wormhole that transports the pirates' ship and the warship to a different region of the galaxy. The result of the fusion is a peculiar spacecraft with incredibly clean lines, a slew of technological issues, and several secret talents that later on are revealed. Three of the women's fighters, known as Dreads, and the Vanguard, which Hibiki attempted to take, have also been modified, enabling the separate ships to merge. A Vandread, the self-titled mecha, is created when Hibiki's mecha and one of the fighters fuse.
