PLOT
In the near future, numerous diverse factions and nascent nations manifest after a series of simultaneous hypercanes decimate the global population and economy. An elite group known as the Logos arises in Japan and takes control of particular regions that contain the majority of the nation's wealth and resources. With the aid of Power Assist Technology, these special zones were established, allowing Japan to recover from the effects of the global catastrophe—which included land subsidence and rising sea levels that permanently submerged low-lying areas and a subsequent ice age in much of the Northern Hemisphere—though only to a very limited extent. The Revenus, a lower class that primarily resides in damaged and frequently impoverished urban or nearby zones and rural areas known as Levinas (such as Levinas Sector Six, Area 18), are under the jurisdiction of the Logos. The Revenus battle daily to survive. Because the Revenus are typically forbidden[g] from visiting the special zones, there is tension that fuels a resistance movement that opposes the Logos.
