PLOT
When Hotaru Ichijou relocates with her family to the remote Asahigaoka village from Tokyo, her way of life undergoes a radical transformation. Regardless of grade level, all five children in her new school, including herself, share a single classroom. It can take up to two hours for a bus to arrive, and there are no convenience stores nearby. However, Hotaru finds herself entranced by the beauty of the countryside because of her four distinctive schoolmates, with whom she immediately develops a sincere friendship. Renge Miyauchi, a first-grader who is frequently insightful despite her age, is the most colorful of them all. But the three Koshigaya siblings—quiet oldest brother Suguru, small older sister Komari, and cheeky youngest girl Natsumi—are no less fascinating.
