Young Ciel Phantomhive is referred to as "the Queen's Guard Dog," looking after Her Majesty's many unpleasant occurrences in Victorian England. Ciel employs any means required to complete the task with the assistance of Sebastian Michaelis, his devoted butler who possesses seemingly superhuman talents. But is this black-clad butler more than he appears to be? A hidden tragedy from Ciel's past has dogged him for years; at one of his darkest hours, he made a deal with the demon Sebastian, trading his soul for vengeance on those who had wronged him. Today, Sebastian is not only a fantastic butler, but also the ideal steward to carry out his master's instructions—all the while looking forward to the delectable feast he will finally prepare from Ciel's soul. The two forge a friendship that neither heaven nor hell can sever as they attempt to solve the riddle underlying Ciel's string of disasters.
