PLOT
LINK VRAINS, developed by SOL Technologies, is a virtual reality environment where thousands of duelists compete in games of Duel Monsters against one another in a location called Den City. As the mysterious Knights of Hanoi, led by Varis, pose a threat to this planet, Yusaku Fujiki, a high school student and hacking prodigy, engages them in combat as Playmaker. The Knights of Hanoi and SOL Technologies are both chasing the same strange self-aware artificial intelligence software because it has the key to the Cyberse World, a secure region of the network that the Knights of Hanoi want to destroy. As the series opens, Yusaku recognizes the opportunity to apprehend this AI, which he calls Ai, who causes the Data Storm in LINK VRAINS. Yusaku fights Hanoi in order to learn the truth about an incident that happened to him ten years ago as this storm gives rise to Speed Duels, in which duelists surf the wind as they duel. Playmaker is able to beat Varis with the aid of two Charisma Duelists, Go Onizuka and Blue Angel, saving the entire network. Playmaker then splits ways with Ai, who chooses to return to his home planet, the Cyberse World.
