PLOT
High school student Kimihiro Watanuki is troubled by ayakashi spirits who are unseen to everyone but him. Watanuki enters a store that grants wishes by what appears to be accident at the start of the series. The proprietor of the store is Yko Ichihara, a shady witch with a storied esoteric past. She offers to fulfill Watanuki's wish to banish the ghosts for a fee. He must temporarily work as Yko's part-time cook and housekeeper as payment because, in Yko's eyes, the price must be of comparable value. While his regular work comprises of household duties, as the story progresses, Yko increasingly assigns him to tasks that are supernatural or spiritual in nature. Watanuki occasionally works alongside Himawari Kunogi, his love interest, and Shizuka Dmeki, a classmate he first dislikes. This happens at Yko's request. The three grow closer, and while though Watanuki frequently resents Dmeki, he learns to appreciate his new companions and his life at the wish shop. He worries about Yko at the same time, wondering if the one who grants wishes to others ever has anything to wish for themselves. Finally, he makes a commitment to attempt to fulfill whatever wishes she might have.
