PLOT
The main character of Utawarerumono, Hakuowlo, is a masked man who one day is discovered by a family of two daughters and their grandmother in a forest close to their hamlet. They take him to their house where they will care for him until he recovers because he is seriously hurt and they quickly discover that he has amnesia. Hakuowlo is quickly welcomed into their village, where he remains and lives with them. However, soon after, he discovers that the greedy landowner who rules over their community is oppressing village life. When these acts become disastrous, Hakuowlo leads a revolt that results in the creation of a new nation from the ruins of the old, which he names Tuskur in honor of the grandmother of the two girls who assisted in saving his life. After seizing and cementing power, Hakuowlo quickly discovers that maintaining peace is difficult and finds himself engaging in a number of violent wars to do so for the sake of his nation and his people. Hakuowlo meets powerful warriors from other nations and tribes along the route and accepts them into his expanding family. Time offers both joy and suffering, but with Hakuowlo paving the way, everyone else is optimistic about the future.
