PLOT
In addition to reading and writing in flawless English, Corneil is a brilliant canine who is far superior to the majority of humans in intelligence. Because he is so intelligent, he is aware that life is best lived as a spoiled pet and does all in his power to prevent his owners John and Beth from discovering his extraordinary abilities. When they employ the bumbling Bernie Barges to "dog-sit," their carefully laid plans start to go apart when Bernie finds out Corneil's secret. The two develop an uneasy camaraderie despite their numerous disagreements, and Corneil finds himself utilizing his wits to help Bernie out of a variety of jams. The majority of the incidents are motivated by Corneil's reluctance to reveal his intelligence and capacity for human discourse to anyone. Only the dog walker Bernie, whose Uncle Rico looks after John and Beth's flat, is aware. Unfortunately, Bernie only accidentally learned Corneil could speak, and he is mainly morally bankrupt and illiterate. All of this puts Corneil in an awkward situation because Bernie frequently pretends to be Corneil and takes advantage of Corneil's unwillingness to interact while disobeying his directives.
