INFORMATION

PLOT

On Christmas Eve, Jon tells Garfield that they are leaving for the country to spend the holiday with his family on their farm. Garfield finds it annoying that they consistently visit the farm but never stop by Jon's place. Garfield listens with great cynicism as Jon recounts of the Christmases he had as a child with his parents, brother Doc Boy, and Grandma on the way to his family's farm. Grandma and Garfield instantly form a unique bond after she arrives. Grandma adds chili powder to Mom's sausage gravy while boasting that her gravy recently won the Greene County Fair while Jon, Garfield, and Odie go for a stroll. While working on something secretive and then sneaking back into the house, Odie waits for Jon and Garfield to arrive for dinner. They dress the tree after dinner. Since no one else can get to the top of the tree, Jon asks Garfield to attach the star. Grandma tells Garfield about her late husband, who she misses very much at Christmas because of his unspoken but obvious love of the season, as the family performs Christmas carols. Mom then requests that Dad read the book Binky, the Clown Who Saved Christmas. Despite his reluctance and boredom from reading it every year, Dad concedes. Odie is creating something out of a piece of wood, some wire, a plunger handle, and a hand rake when Odie's strange behavior is noticed by Garfield at night. Garfield follows Odie to the barn and finds out what Odie is up to. Garfield discovers some old letters there and estimates their age to be at least 50 years old.
