PLOT

A melancholy Kimihiro Watanuki has taken over the store that was originally owned by the mysterious Yuuko ten years after the events of xxxHOLiC Shunmuki because he kept a promise he made to her. Living together with him in relative contentment are his friends Maru, Moro, and Mokona. He also occasionally sees Shizuka Doumeki, a former rival turned devoted friend, and Kohane Tsuyuri, a previous psychic prodigy. They come upon a case that would be ideal for the shop owner when Kohane is studying folklore under Doumeki at the university. Eventually, Haruka, Doumeki's grandfather, pays Watanuki a visit. He asks Watanuki to see into his grandson's dreams. Watanuki learns truths from ten years ago and mysteries about the bonds that link their friendship as he explores how their past experiences unfolded through Doumeki's point of view while in the dream world.
