PLOT
Kai and Gerda have been neighbors and close friends since they were little. Kai is twelve; Gerda is eleven. They were contented kids who behaved well in their work and play. When the Snow Queen's mirror broke, everything was different. Each of the shards, which are scattered over the world, contains evil. Your heart would turn to ice if a shard got into your eye. Kai's eye was cut by a piece. He thus became distant from those he loved. The Snow Queen once arrived in her carriage and drove Kai to her ice castle at the most northerly spot on Earth. Everyone in Kai and Gerda's hamlet assumed he drowned in the frozen-over lake because they didn't know where he went. Gerda doesn't buy it because she had a dream in which Kai was entering the carriage. Gerda begins to suspect that perhaps what she witnessed wasn't a dream when a drunken man discloses that he, too, experienced this. She gathers her belongings and embarks on a quest to rescue Kai and return him to his family.
