PLOT
The main characters in Hitohira are a group of freshmen in high school who either belong to the Drama Club or the considerably smaller Drama Research Society. The protagonist, Mugi Asai, a quiet young woman starting her first year of high school, is in the foreground. Mugi is hesitant about what clubs to join at the beginning of the year, but Nono Ichinose, the head of the Drama Research Society, soon notices her after hearing Mugi's startlingly loud voice. When Nono puts pressure on Mugi to join the club, Mugi eventually gives in and does so. Mugi initially didn't think it would be too horrible, but she eventually finds out that the Drama Research Society will perform two plays this year and that, due to a lack of club members, Mugi will need to play multiple roles in both performances. Mugi's personality evolves throughout time as a result of the club members' impact.
