PLOT
Rintarou Okabe, the eccentric and self-described mad scientist, has diminished significantly. After failing to save his friend Makise Kurisu, he became depressed and traumatized and made the decision to give up his alter persona as a mad scientist and live as a typical college student. Okabe spends his days attempting to forget the horrors of his lone journeys while surrounded by people who are unaware of his time travel escapades. While serving as the forum's receptionist, Okabe meets the short, vivacious Maho Hiyajo, who ends up serving as the interpreter for Professor Alexis Leskinen's presentation. Amadeus, a ground-breaking AI that can store a person's memories and create an exact simulation of that person complete with their personality and quirks, is unveiled by Alexis and Maho in front of an audience of startled onlookers. Okabe discovers when she meets Maho and Alexis after the presentation that they were Kurisu's classmates in college and that they have portrayed her in Amadeus. Okabe is granted the chance to interact with the shadow of a long-lost close friend after being hired by Alexis to conduct study on the simulation's behavior. As a result of being dangerously entangled in the past, Okabe is forced to confront the unpleasant truth and carefully avoid the devastating effects that result from interfering with time's normal course.
