PLOT
Ayumu Tanaka, the middle school kendo champion, enrolls in the unofficial Shogi Club instead of the expected Kendo Club when he starts his freshman year of high school. The president of the club and the single member, Urushi Yaotome, is his one and only goal in life, and he would stop at nothing to pursue her. Ayumu resolves to hold off on confessing to Urushi until after he has defeated her in a fair game of shogi. This obstacle that Ayumu put in his way is obviously difficult for him to go past because Urushi is far more skilled than him and can see through his every move. Nevertheless, he continues to compliment her on her appearance, her talent, and even her smile, which, when combined with Ayumu's expressionless face and straight manner, causes Urushi to repeatedly flush beet red. With every thrilling game they play together, even if it's just one pawn at a time, Ayumu gets to know more about shogi and the charming player seated across from him.
