PLOT
Competitors in the modern boxing style known as Megalo Box wear metal frames called Gear. "Gearless" Joe won the inaugural Megalonia tournament and quickly gained a reputation as a legendary fighter. But soon after, he was defeated in an exhibition match by the second champion, and he disappeared from view. Seven years later, Joe now goes by "Nomad," maintains a low profile, and occasionally engages in combat in order to survive. He uses a variety of medicines to dull his hallucinations and to calm his mind. Joe defeats Chief during a match, who loses on purpose to collect more money from gamblers. Joe later learns that Chief comes from a neighborhood of immigrants known as the Casa. Chief is steadily working to accumulate enough cash to buy the property on which they are unlawfully residing. Joe is first hesitant to get involved but ultimately chooses to assist the Casa.
