PLOT
Young Nanami Simpson is a woman. She moves in with her father, Scott Simpson, on board the Peperonchino, a maritime research vessel, after losing her mother when she is still a little child. The luminous whale is a creature that her father, a marine biologist, is looking for. He is sorry to see the remains of one of these and decides to redirect his purpose to focus on protecting and caring for the animals. Tico, an orca that Nanami befriends and swims with every day, is named. She eventually discovers how to breathe underwater, surprising her father. One day, Nanami is on the verge of drowning when one of the shining whales rescues her, brings her back to the ship, and her father is finally allowed to see it.
