PLOT
Ohana Matsumae, a 16-year-old Tokyo resident who is left in the care of her estranged maternal grandmother after her mother elopes with her boyfriend, is the main character in Hanasaku Iroha. Ohana discovers her grandma is the proprietor of the Taish era hot spring inn Kissuis when she arrives at her grandmother's country estate. In response to her grandmother's request, she starts working at Kissuis, but she quickly runs into problems there with both guests and staff. Initially dejected, she chooses to take advantage of her situation as a chance to improve herself and repair her failing relationship with the Kissuis' personnel in order to position herself for a more promising future.
