PLOT

"Gegege no Kitarou (1985)" is the third anime adaptation of the classic Japanese manga series, "Gegege no Kitarou," written and illustrated by Shigeru Mizuki. The series ran from 1985 to 1988. "Gegege no Kitarou" tells the story of Kitaro, a young yōkai (a term for supernatural beings in Japanese folklore) boy who is the last living member of the Ghost Tribe. He and his companions, including a father figure named Medama-Oyaji (a reincarnated form of his father as a walking, talking eyeball), navigate the world of both humans and yōkai. Kitaro and his friends work to maintain peace between the human world and the yōkai world. Often, this involves Kitaro intervening in situations where malevolent yōkai are causing problems for humans or other yōkai.
