PLOT
The narrative followed the conflict between the crew of the semi-transformable carrier Daik Mary and the Dr. Daimonji-created Super Robot Gaiking against an alien invasion force known as the Dark Horror Army. This army is from the planet Zela, whose star, Sigma, is turning into a black hole and destroying their world as their people begins to disappear. The Daik Mary and her support machines' dinosaur-inspired designs and the usage of a portion of the carrier to create the main robot are notable features of the series. Sanshiro Tsuwabuki, a former baseball player, was chosen to operate the robot Gaiking because he possessed latent psychic abilities that made him the only person capable of doing so. All other candidates with comparable abilities had been killed by alien agents, and he himself had been hurt in an attack that had ended his sporting career. The features that set Gaiking apart from other mecha are its golden skull-shaped body made from the head of the Daik Mary and its golden horns.
