PLOT
Shinobu Fujiwara, Sara Yuki, Masato Shikibu, and Ryo Shiba are the four warriors who operate the mecha Dancouga in the battle to free parts of Earth from the Muge Zorbados Empire, an alien invasion force. Dancouga is an illustration of a Super Robot of the combining kind. Dancouga does not combine until halfway through the series, and the Cyber Beast Machines were capable of successfully combating their foes. This is in contrast to the conventional "component machines struggle against the monster of the week before combining and easily dispatching the monster" format. The primary parts of the Cyber Beast mecha were capable of mimicking evolution. The mecha originally consisted of four vehicles that could morph into either humanoids or animals (an eagle, cougar, tiger, and mammoth, respectively). Religion (mainly Christianity, though the series also incorporates parts of Taoist philosophy) and music are prevalent themes in the Dancouga stories. Most episodes touch on the subject of gods.
