A young guy named Rygart Arrow, who lives in an universe where humans may wield "magic," serves as the protagonist of the novel. With this magic, quartz may be manipulated and empowered to perform a variety of tasks, like as riding enormous robots known as "Golems," operating machinery, and creating light. Rygart, however, is one of the rare exceptions; as a "un-sorcerer," he is unable to use quartz, which makes many parts of life challenging and makes him unpopular with the general population. Despite this, he was able to make friends with Hodr and Sigyn, the future king and queen of the Krisna Kingdom, as well as Zess, the younger brother of the Athens Commonwealth's secretary of war. Years later, when Rygart and Hodr and Sigyn are reunited, he finds out that the Athens Commonwealth has started an invasion of Krisna. The fact that Zess is in charge of one of the strike forces astounds Rygart as well. While in the capital, Rygart learns he has the capacity to control a recently unearthed ancient Golem that magic users cannot control. The golem, despite its ancient origins, has systems and skills that are significantly more advanced than those of the modern Golems and may be essential in shifting the balance of battle. Rygart initially hesitates, but soon joins the conflict between Krisna and Athens in an effort to protect Hodr, Sigyn, and even Zess.
