PLOT
High school student Kyo Sogoru, who resides in Maihama, leads a typical existence that includes going to class, dating, and participating in the swim club. When Kyo spots Shizuno Misaki, a stunning young woman, at the pool one day and learns that he is initially the only one who can see her, his life is forever altered. Kyo intends to get Shizuno to feature in a promotional video made by his close friend Ryoko in order to keep his high school's swimming club open by enlisting new members. Shizuno agrees, but only if she does something for him in return—namely, if he pilots a mecha for the Cerebrum group. In response to her request, Kyo is sucked into a game-like environment where he must battle enormous robots to protect it from Deutera Areas created by aliens known as Gards-orm that pose a threat to the planet. However, Kyo quickly begins to feel as though everything he is doing is strangely familiar and begins to suspect that the reality he is living in could not even be real at all. Kyo must keep fighting in order to preserve the lives of those who are dear to him, even as he wonders what kind of reality he is living in.
