PLOT
Early in the twenty-first century, yukikaze happens. A dimensional portal that emerged over Antarctica was used by the JAM, an alien army, to attack Earth 33 years before the events of the series. The UN creates a defense force to combat the menace without disturbing the populace and, after a string of terrible fights, succeeds in driving the enemy back to the other side of the portal. The UN constructs five bases on the "Fairy" planet, the homeworld of the JAM, to continue the JAM attack with the Fairy Air Force (FAF) in command. Lt. Rei Fukai, the main character, is a fighter pilot who flies the FFR-31MR/D Super Sylph (later the FFR-41MR Mave), also known as "Yukikaze," an advanced armed tactical reconnaissance aircraft with a near-sentient AI system. He is a member of the Special Air Force's (SAF) Boomerang Squadron, which is the FAF's combat intelligence wing. Fukai and the FAF battle the JAM, who have mastered the art of human cloning and have infiltrated the FAF with operatives, throughout the course of the series.
