Ayu Tateishi, a second-year middle school student who gets along with everyone, finds a dejected-looking Nina Sakura outside of the school on a fateful day. Nina reveals that earlier in the day, she had lost something very precious to her. Ayu offers to assist Nina, the bothersome girl, in looking for her misplaced item, but Nina refuses to identify it and flees. Ayu discovers what appears to be a minicomputer below the bench she knew Nina was sitting at earlier that day as she makes her way home. After receiving the item back, Nina mulls over whether or not to tell Ayu about her "huge secret." She begins to follow Ayu about to determine if she can trust her. Eventually, she decides that Ayu is trustworthy. Nina explains that she is a magic girl who is genuinely from the Magic Kingdom. However, Ayu first doesn't believe Nina and thinks she is somewhat crazy. Being told that she is a witch is not something Ayu can readily accept because she has always rejected the notions of magic and fairy tales, even confessing that she hasn't read Harry Potter. Nina demonstrates that she is a magic girl and a failure who came to Earth as her last opportunity to succeed after a string of disasters with her magic. Due to these initial errors and the fact that Nina has revealed her secret to Ayu, Nina bonds with her as a friend and tries everything in her power to assist Ayu in attracting Tetsushi Kaji, her crush. To Ayu's dismay, a lot of Magic Kingdom friends visit Nina as their adventures progress.
