PLOT
Kate, Rachel, Rose, and Claire go to a private school on Roosevelt Island in New York City. One morning, when everyone awakens, they are all agitated and restless and believe it strange that no one can recall anything from the previous evening. Their worry grows when they learn from the school that Lise, a classmate and friend of all four girls, has been discovered dead. The following night, butterflies bring the four females to the same area. They are told they are dead and that they must work for someone else by a woman named Lula and her partner JC as they approach them. They are found to be working for the organization Animus. On certain nights, the females are summoned to fight "monsters" with superhuman strength and agility but human-like exteriors. After a battle, the girls are worn out and fatigued. They will actually die if they fail, just like the other girls employed by the Animus. Later, Lulu claims that the girls have been reanimated in brand-new, unique bodies and that their actual bodies are in her custody. In addition, the girls were executed soon after they found Lise's lifeless body since they had gone hunting for her when she initially went missing. It was intended for Lise to be reanimated, but the "monsters" had stopped that from happening. Lula goes on to say that she has the power to eventually end the girls' mission and return them to their previous lives.
