PLOT
Dairugger XV was an exploration robot and a planned peacekeeping force in the original plot that was broadcasted in Japan. Earth is experiencing prosperity. A mission to explore outside of the galaxy is started by the president of the Terran League. The spacecraft Rugger-Guard is attacked by a Galbeston Empire ship shortly after it starts its exploration mission. To protect Earth, Dairugger, a super robot, is sent into action. They must assist Galbeston's citizens in finding a new planet before it explodes and free it from the rule of its tyrannical Emperor. As contrary to Voltron: Defender of the Universe in the U.S. version, it has no connection to King of the Beasts GoLion in the Japanese version. Land, Air, and Sea assault team units are represented. To create the super-robot Dairugger, a total of 15 pieces known as "Rugger" must be combined. Since 15 players are needed to make a rugby union, the design of the 15 unique Rugger units was inspired by the game of rugby. To make the program suitable for broadcast to a wide audience in the United States, the "Galbeston Empire" would be called the "Drule Empire," and certain violent and sexual material would be edited.
