PLOT
Mei the goat wanders into a barn one night in search of safety from a storm. The goat meets another immigrant in the barn. Despite the fact that they cannot see or smell one other, the two huddle up close to one another to stay warm and start conversing. They eventually become a friendship. When they eventually meet, they will be able to identify each other by using the password "one stormy night." Mei discovers that his companion the night before was a wolf by the name of Gabu when they finally cross paths the following day. Despite having a natural animosity against one another, they develop a bond and start meeting frequently. But later Mei's workers and Gabu's pack learn about their bond and prevent it. The pack and labor try to coerce Mei and Gabu into using one another to find out information about their adversaries in a highly cunning move. Mei and Gabu cross a river in a storm because they don't want to be constrained by their respective clan's unfair rules any longer and because they want to keep their friendship. They are searching for a peaceful "emerald forest" free from oppression.
