PLOT
The story, which is set in an alternate 1889, focuses on Nadia, a 14-year-old girl of unknown ancestry, and Jean, a young, kind-hearted French inventor. Grandis Granva, Sanson, and Hanson, a trio of jewel thieves who are after Nadia for the blue jeweled pendant she is wearing and calling the Blue Water early in the novel, are pursuing the two protagonists. The youthful protagonists and the jewel thieves team up to fight the Neo-Atlantean forces that want to rule the globe after being saved by Captain Nemo and his submarine, the Nautilus. Nadia and Jean learn about the planet's mysteries and the abilities of the Blue Water while defending the world from the cruel rule of the Neo-Atlantean forces commanded by Gargoyle. They also learn about Nadia's hidden familial connections and, in the end, learn about Nadia's hidden beginnings.
