PLOT
Dr. Amami is a scientist working in the field of alternative energy in the year 2100, and at the start of the series, he is about to make a significant discovery in the field of "Rynax energy." On the occasion of her 12th birthday, Kurau, his daughter, joins him at the laboratory. There, an experiment goes horrifically wrong, and she is struck by a bolt of this energy, which scatters her into lights. When she heals, it is discovered that two Rynax, who are actually sentient life beings and not merely a kind of energy, have seized control of her body. One of the Rynax, nevertheless, is too frail to awaken. While Kurau's sudden superhuman skills make her a research topic for scientists, the awakened Rynax adopts Kurau's name and identity and manages to lead a largely typical existence. The second Rynax awakens ten years later and manifests as a 12-year-old girl whom Kurau calls Christmas. The two resemble sisters in both appearance and behavior.
