PLOT
Narihisago, a renowned investigator who is currently serving time in jail, is the main character of the novel as he investigates numerous serial murders. Prior to the recent incidents, two years ago, a serial murderer cruelly murdered Narihisago's daughter Muku, which prompted his wife to kill herself. These murders inspired him to seek out and kill the murderer, earning him a prison term. His wife and daughter's deaths continue to haunt and depress him, but he also uses this as motivation to work hard and stop serial killers. Nevertheless, because of his family's deaths, he harbors resentment toward all serial killers, which occasionally takes the form of an uncontrollable urge to kill. Despite this, it is clear that most of Narihisago's coworkers have a high regard for his job. Hondomachi, a new field analyst, develops into a significant character throughout the course of the series after almost escaping death in a case involving a serial killer.
