PLOT
14-year-old Renton Thurston lived in a small village with his mechanic grandfather. Every day, he fantasized about joining the mercenary "Light Finding Operation (LFO)" aircraft pilot organization "Gekkostate" and riding "Trapar" particle waves—a sport known as "reffing"—with their charismatic leader Holland, especially when confronted by his father's illustrious background or his grandfather's wish to protect him. The garage is destroyed and Renton is forced to give the Nirvash a new sort of interface called the "Amita Drive" after a little girl named Eureka who is riding the original LFO, the "Nirvash typeZERO," accidentally draws the military's notice to it. Renton is welcomed into Gekkostate during a tense battle in which the Nirvash demolishes the military LFOs by unleashing an enormous amount of power. But he soon understands that the wandering band of mercenaries' appearance masks a very bleak reality.
