PLOT
A young boy named Yu-yu, living in Kanazawa, Kaga Province, is in his third year of junior high school and is 15 years old. He can sense other people's emotions, but he is concerned by the fact that he cannot answer no when asked. Yu-yu left his house one day because he could no longer tolerate backing his sister's interest. Megumi Okura comes to his rescue. Megumi offers an invitation to Yu-yu to visit her pals at "Wonder Hill," a nighttime entertainment park. At the amusement park, Megumi, Zakusa Ishikame, and Tomari Seto are introduced to Yu-yu as members of "Team Blackout," a group that meets every night to play Vanguard. There will be a fierce battle tonight for the team's flag. Danji Momoyama, the leader of Blackout, and Touya Ebata, a mysterious and formidable warrior. The card fight eventually degrades into a realm of pictures as Yu-yu stares at them. This is how Yu-yu discovers Vanguard, a world he has never seen before, and is pulled in by its great appeal, gaining new friendships in the process.
