Albert, Franz, Morrel, and Beauchamp visit the Count at his residence, where they meet Haydée Tebelin. When Albert and Morrel almost come to blows over the fact that aristocrats marry primarily for wealth and power and almost never for love, it is then that the Count proposes a duel. However, when Albert slips and falls into the pool filled with sharks, the Count dives in to save him.
