PLOT
Keita Amano, a first-grader, has a curiosity that is typical of kids his age. But when he finally makes the decision to go further into the forest, he comes across a little, mysterious capsule. Whisper emerges from within. This ghost-like creature is relieved to have been released after spending 190 years in captivity. He chooses to give Keita a reward by taking on the role of his protector from paranormal powers. Whisper, one of the many Youkai in the world, gives Keita a unique Youkai Watch so he can view and communicate with all the other Youkai. Youkai Watch follows Keita, Whisper, and the cat spirit Jibanyan as they come into contact with Youkai, make friends with them, and resolve all the problems that they so frequently cause. With the aid of the watch, they are also able to exploit the abilities of previously encountered Youkai to their advantage. While young Keita may have only been a typical primary school student when he first came into contact with the Youkai, the numerous adventures that ensue give him priceless experiences and priceless life lessons that aid in his development.
