PLOT

The Pink Panther is a homeless man who spends Christmastime traveling a large metropolis in the early 20th century. He's cold, hungry, and there's snow on the ground. The cartoon shows his struggles to get food while navigating the chaotic holiday mayhem in the city. When he accidentally bites into a young girl's gingerbread man, the department store manager chases him around the building, and he only just manages to escape. This leads to a job as Santa in the store. In addition to several other attempts to find food after this, he makes unsuccessful attempts to earn money by sweeping snow off the stairs of a nearby house and to get himself arrested in order to eat in jail (a plot device taken from O. Henry's classic story "The Cop and the Anthem"). Pink Panther follows after the officer's fallen doughnut that is rolling down the street after seeing a robbery attempt with a police officer nearby. The doughnut is taken there by a small dog who is equally hungry, but Pink pushes him away and eats it by himself. The Pink Panther feels ashamed of himself and shares the doughnut with the dog after noticing the expression on the small dog's face and recognizing that his actions are not in keeping with the spirit of Christmas. The dog then follows the Pink Panther as he returns to the city park. A little tree nearby (the same bench the panther sat on at the beginning of the show) miraculously covers itself in candles, ornaments, and a star, and then a large table with a generous Christmas supper appears out of thin air. Santa had just dropped the food as a thank-you for the panther's charity toward the puppy when Pink looked up and noticed it. He gives the small dog some of his dinner, and they both start enjoying it.
