PLOT

Megu-Chan chronicles the adventures of a strong (though reckless) young witch who travels to Earth to complete her introduction into society. Megu is a potential candidate for the Witch World's crown, but she has limited experience in interpersonal interactions. She is adopted by Mammi Kanzaki, a former witch who gave up her royal aspirations to marry a mortal. She was sent to Mid-World (Earth) in her early teens. Mammi tricks her husband and their two kids, Rabi and Apo, into thinking Megu has always been the family's eldest child (the concept of using magic to alter memory would turn up again in future magical girl series, such as Majokko Tickle and Sailor Moon). Megu gains self-control under Mammi's guidance in order to demonstrate her suitability for the throne. The series maintains a rite-of-passage theme throughout. Megu-chan, a true free spirit, experiences feelings she never knew existed, including loneliness, empathy, grief, love, desperation, and—perhaps most significantly—self-sacrifice. She demonstrates the nobleness of her character through the different trials and tribulations of childhood as the plot develops, changing from a stubborn and somewhat selfish young girl to a compassionate, giving, and loving young woman. She fights monsters, demons, and other sorcerers (including her archenemy, Non), but soon comes to the conclusion that her main foe is the sinister part of human nature.
