PLOT
A race of underground alien monsters known as the Zonders appear in the year 2005 and begin attacking the city of Tokyo. The magnificent enormous robot GaoGaiGar, created by the covert organization known as the Gutsy Geoid Guard (or 3G), is the only protection against these animals. Guy Shishio, the GaoGaiGar's pilot, is a former astronaut who came dangerously close to dying two years prior when the Zonders first plummeted to earth. Guy was plucked from the flaming ship and transported to Earth by a weird mechanical lion named Galeon, saving his life. In an effort to thwart the aliens when they arrive, Guy's father Leo then rebuilt his damaged son as a cyborg using Galeon's technology. GaoGaiGar now defends Earth with Galeon at its center. A group of mutating robots and a young kid named Mamoru, who has the ability to purify the Zonders' cores and appears to be connected to the enigmatic Galeon, help him.
