PLOT

Umineko no Naku Koro ni, the third book in the wildly successful When They Cry series, is set on the island of Rokkenjima, which is owned by the obscenely affluent Ushiromiya family. Every year, the entire family congregates on the island for a meeting where the current financial problems of each individual are discussed. This year, because of the family head's failing health, the issue of the family head's inheritance and its distribution is raised. The family is unaware that the least of Ushiromiya Kinzou's (family head) concerns for this year's family meeting is the distribution of his fortune. Kinzou is eager to see Beatrice, the Golden Witch, one final time after learning that his end was near from his lifelong friend and physician. After spending a large portion of his later years absorbed in black magic, Kinzou initiates a ceremony to resurrect his beloved upon the arrival of his family on Rokkenjima. A series of unexplained murders begin shortly after the family is trapped on the island by a ferocious typhoon, compelling the 18 people there to fight for their lives in a lethal conflict between imagination and reality.
