PLOT
In the not too distant future, humankind will have developed to the point that it will be possible to completely transplant a human body into a machine. By blending the boundaries between the physical and cybernetic worlds, this enables significant gains in both abilities. However, criminals can also fully use such technology, resulting in brand-new crimes that can occasionally be quite harmful. The Japanese government created Section 9, an autonomously operating police section that handles such extremely sensitive offenses, in response to such novel new techniques. Section 9 deals with similar crimes across the whole social spectrum, typically with success under the direction of Daisuke Aramaki and Motoko Kusanagi. The team is forced to play a risky game of cat and mouse as they follow the hacker's trail as it leaves its mark on Japan, but, when confronted with a new A level hacker known as "The Laughing Man."
