PLOT
Patema is a brave young woman from a civilisation that lives below and has an amazing tunnel system. She was motivated by a buddy who mysteriously vanished, and because of her royal status, she frequently receives reprimands for her frequent explorations of these tunnels. She is frightened by a weird beast as she reaches the "forbidden zone," and she unintentionally falls into a huge bottomless pit. She physically finds herself in an upside-down world on the surface and starts to descend towards the sky before being saved by Age, a disgruntled student from the authoritarian country of Aiga. Patema and other "Inverts" are portrayed as sinners by the Aiga people who will be "swallowed by the sky," but Age has rejected this propaganda and has chosen to stand up for his new friend. In Sakasama no Patema, a heartwarming movie about overcoming differences in order to cohabit, two inquisitive teens who happen to meet by coincidence embark on an adventure of two distinct worlds as they start working together to uncover the secrets of their origins.
