PLOT
In a hut pulled by a donkey, Perrine travels throughout Europe with her mother, a photographer. They are traveling to Perrine's deceased father's home in a little village in northern France. They are unwanted in the hamlet, but Perrine is unaware of this because her father fled the community after a dispute with her grandfather (Perrine's father) and a forced marriage to an Indian woman. Perrine is forced to sell everything, including her favorite donkey Palikare, to buy medicine after her mother develops a serious illness. Mother passes away in Paris and instructs the kid, just before she does, that she must win her grandfather's love before he realizes who she truly is. Perrine ultimately reaches the village after a difficult trek, when she discovers that her wealthy grandfather owns the factory that provides food for the entire community. Perrine applies for a job at the plant using a fictitious name in an effort to win her grandfather's affection.
