PLOT

With one notable exception, atarillo! is situated in a world that is largely similar to our own. It is based on a popular manga for teenage Japanese females called bishounen, which includes a sizable percentage of gay guys and attractive young people (beautiful boys). Marinera, the realm of endless spring, which is somewhere in the South Seas, is where most of the action takes place. The nation is a significant producer of diamonds, which form a significant portion of the war in the anime series. They originate from one of the world's most productive mines, which is held by Patarillo, the boy-king of Marinera who is vertically handicapped but horizontally endowed. The International Diamond Syndicate, a big semi-criminal organization/secret society intent on controlling the whole world's supply of diamonds, is after that mine and will do whatever it takes to acquire it. Several bishounen assassins are dispatched to carry out assassinations in Patarillo in the early episodes, necessitating the need for Major Jack ('Bishounen-Killer') Bancoran, an English MI6 operative, to serve as his bodyguard. Despite his nickname, Bancoran does not intentionally kill bishounen. No male under the age of 17 can resist his sexual fascination, hence the nickname. This includes Patarillo himself, much to Bancoran's eternal chagrin. The action frequently shifts between Marinera and the MI6 headquarters in London (which appears to be a simple two-hour flight from the South Seas) or Bancoran's opulent condo in the suburbs of the same city. (It should be noted that MI6 resembles Fritz Lang's Metropolis, whereas Jack's "flat" has a passing likeness to a Randolph Hearst spread.) Additionally, the action travels into the past, the future, and outer space. Clearly mobile, Patarillo.
