Over time, the malformed ones became known as Mushi because they were initially seen as weird and feared by man. Although the Mushi have no desire to harm humans, many of them experience the negative impacts of their existence and peculiar nature. Even accidentally utilizing the Mushi without knowing them can result in disaster and conflict for all parties involved. The narrative of Mushishi Ginko's quest to make it possible for the visible world and the Mushi to coexist is continued in Mushishi Zoku Shou. Ginko encounters a variety of remarkable people during his travels—those afflicted by fate and those sustaining a precarious symbiosis with the Mushi—and is inevitably forced to consider whether humanity—talented and tormented alike—can manage the duty of the unseen. In addition, Ginko must determine if he has the authority to interfere with the complicated connections between Mushishi and humans as a Mushishi and discover more about these odd beings.
