PLOT
Akira Nikaido, a high school student and ordinary slacker leading a typical life, is the protagonist of the novel. That is, until he encounters the enigmatic Shirogane, a man who emerges out of nowhere and informs him that they share a destiny. Akira is astonished and doesn't believe a word of it when he hears this. One night, Aya, one of Akira's friends, forgets something at school and asks Akira to go find it for her. He consents, and while there, a shadow monster attacks him. Shirogane persuades him that in order to assist restore the balance between the human world and the shadow world, Akira must transform into a "shin," a member of the shadow realm. While completely absent from the manga, shonen-ai themes are present in the anime.
