PLOT
One thing always tends to lift 15-year-old Kino's spirits when she is feeling depressed by troubled thoughts: travel. Exploring the lovely, magnificent world around her and the various ways that people choose to live brings her the greatest joy. Despite what her adorable appearance and polite behavior might suggest, Kino is not helpless. With her trusted firearms, "Cannon" and "Woodsman," Kino isn't hesitant to shoot anyone who dares to stand in her way. Hermes, a sentient motorcycle that is Kino's dearest friend and devoted companion, is by her side at all times and comforts her through the trials and tribulations of their voyage. With a single rule in mind—never stay in one place for longer than three days—they journey through the broad countryside as a group. Kino and Hermes develop and learn more about their own principles and qualities as they meet new individuals and become familiar with the customs of their societies. But as Kino steadily learns more about the world, she must also contend with threats that lurk in the vast unknown.
