PLOT
Playing the well-liked social role-playing game Magical Girl Raising Project is as close as many girls in N-City can get to being a true magical girl. That fantasy, though, may come true for a select few players. Koyuki Himekawa, one of these girls, learns one evening that she has been chosen to become a magical girl, her video game character Snow White. As Koyuki and the other city's chosen players start assisting individuals in need, they all get another notice informing them that the administrators have decided to cut back on the amount of magical girls. In their weekly competition, the participant who gathers the fewest Magical Candies—awarded for participating in magical girl activities—will forfeit their abilities. They are nonetheless made aware of the consequences of losing their skills when the first person to leave suffers a real-world catastrophe. The girls quickly come to the realization that their "contest" is truly a desperate struggle for survival as more competitors eventually fail the game and additional perverse restrictions are implemented.
