Takeshi Nanase discovers abruptly one summer morning that the world as we know it is only half the story. Takeshi comes upon a female who is unconscious and wearing a uniform when he is on his way to kendo practice. In exchange for Takeshi saving her and doing the right thing, the girl wakes up and unintentionally transforms him into a magic user. Takeshi learns that there are two worlds: the one he inhabits and the world of magic users. Most magic users simply want to live in harmony with non-magic users, but some have loftier goals. Mui Aiba is a magician who attends the Subaru Magic Academy, a place where people who use magic can learn how to harness and control their abilities as well as how to coexist peacefully with non-magical people. Takeshi decides to join in the Magic Academy together with his new magician friends Kurumi Isoshima and Kazumi Ida following his eventful encounter with Mui. Whether they are battling to escape the past or catch up to the future, the three buddies have different motivations for continuing the fight. The Ghost Trailers are a gang of magicians that are prepared to use violence to establish their superiority over humans. They are armed with a variety of powers that they must learn to control. Takeshi and his companions are being pursued by the Ghost Trailers; to defeat the commander of the Trailers and stop the outbreak of the Second Great Magic War, they must train to become stronger.
