PLOT
Death of the body no longer equates to death of the soul in a world where memories are stored on memory chips that are independent from the body. Memories can be accessed, changed, and transmitted across bodies. The wealthy employ these memory chips to achieve immortal lives in carefully chosen bodies, while the impoverished frequently have little choice but to sell their own bodies and save their souls in the chips in order to survive. This social division is impregnable because of an electrolytic cloud in the sky that acts as a wall between the skies of the fortunate and the underworld of the poor. Kaiba awakens in an empty room one day with no memory of how he got there, a mystery hole in his chest, and a locket with a photograph of an unidentified woman. He starts his journey across the various planets of this odd cosmos to learn more about himself and the woman he once knew after fleeing an attack and finding a run-down town of underworld denizens. Kaiba weaves stories of souls and spirits and examines the value of memories on a journey of self-discovery and acceptance.
