"Les Miserables: Shoujo Cosette" is an anime adaptation of Victor Hugo's classic novel, "Les Miserables." It was part of the "World Masterpiece Theater" series by Nippon Animation, which consisted of anime adaptations of different classic works of literature. The anime provides a more child-friendly version of the original story while still maintaining many of the core themes and narrative arcs. The story follows a young girl named Cosette who lives a harsh life under the care of the Thenardiers, a cruel and greedy couple who exploit her for manual labor. Cosette's life changes dramatically when she meets Jean Valjean, a former convict who has turned his life around.
