PLOT
Gaou, a young kid who lost both an arm and an eye as a child, was bullied and treated differently from an early age since he could not integrate with his friends. Gaou eventually turned to a life of thievery because of the ongoing mockery and persecution that made him bitter and hardened. Gaou met a woman who saw goodness in him despite his sinful and corrupt ways, and the two got married. Gaou killed his wife, though, after losing control of himself one day over a minor quarrel. Gaou profoundly regrets his evil activities after realizing what he had done and changes his behavior. Gaou came across a Buddhist monk who inspired him to make a change and discover his love for sculpture. Gaou gave up his old life of violence and converted to Buddhism. He then devoted himself to the creation of amazing sculptures, which are recognized for the intense feelings they can evoke. Gaou once came upon a legendary phoenix, whose blood is said to grant perpetual life to those who drink it, together with fellow sculptor Akanemaru. Gaou dedicates himself to creating a spectacular phoenix sculpture after becoming inspired. But soon after he finished it, someone stole it, shattered it into 16 pieces, and hid them around various eras of the past and future. Gaou set off on a perilous voyage through time and space in order to retrieve the 16 components of the phoenix sculpture.
